Research Project Assistant (m/f/d)
30 hours per week, 75% of full-time employment
The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) is funding the research project “Being moved” by music in the 19th century (2026–2029) as part of the Weave program and in cooperation with the University of Cologne (Prof. Frank Hentschel). This three-year project examines the conditions of “being moved” based on a comprehensive and systematic analysis of a wide variety of textual sources. In the spirit of historically oriented music psychology, the research investigates whether there were specific musical characteristics and patterns capable of triggering a particularly strong affective response. To carry out the project, the Anton Bruckner Private University (project leader: Prof. Markus Neuwirth) is seeking a project assistant in the position of a research assistant (pre-doc).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree (preferably in music theory and/or musicology or a related discipline)
- Background in music theory and analysis
- Willingness to collaborate and work well in a team
- Regular attendance at the Anton Bruckner Private University
- Excellent English skills (C2 level)
- Experience with academic research projects, publications, digital corpus research, digital humanities, and computational and quantitative methods is desirable

Based on a part-time position of 30 hours per week, the minimum monthly gross salary is €2,776.78. Classification is carried out in accordance with Annex 1 of the statutes and service regulations, in salary group D. The actual salary depends on creditable prior professional experience.
