The Anton Bruckner Private University (ABPU) is an internationally renowned university in the heart of Europe located in Linz, the UNESCO City of Media Arts, which sees its mission equally in artistic, artistic-educational and artistic-academic education as in the development and communication of the arts. ABPU sees the transfer of knowledge to society and the area of the Third Mission as an important part of its social commitment. The Anton Bruckner Private University offers artistic and artistic-educational degree programmes in the fields of music, drama and dance. It is organised as a public corporation and is funded by the state of Upper Austria.

University professorship for composition

  • Scope of employment: 20 hours per week (11 hours teaching; 50% employment)
  • Duration of employment: initially limited to three years; due to positive evaluation - permanent position
  • Salary group: LD 8 Upper Austrian salary law 2001 (Oö. Gehaltsgesetzes 2001)
  • Gross monthly salary: from EUR 2.638,65 (depending on creditable previous service)
  • Planned start of employment: 01/10/2025
  • Selection procedure: according to the appointment regulations - hearing
  • End of application period: 22/07/2024
  • Hearing expected: 28.+ 29. October 2024
  • Organisational unit: Institute for Composition, Conducting and Computer Music (IKD)

Requirements


  • Outstanding artistic qualifications in the field of composition with a focus on jazz, improvisation and performance in the sense of a composer-performer
  • Experience in the field of ensemble conducting and active work as a performer
  • Specialist skills in jazz instrumentation and arrangement, experience in jazz harmony
  • A completed domestic or equivalent foreign university education appropriate to the application
  • International presence, guest lectures, airplay etc.
  • Experience in supervising academic work
  • Extensive teaching experience
  • Willingness to cooperate and ability to work in a team as well as active participation in (interdisciplinary) university projects and cooperation in organizational tasks
  • Regular attendance at the Bruckner University

Role & Responsibilities


  • Leading a composition class as part of artistic training in Bachelor's and Master's degree programs as well as supervising relevant supplementary subjects
  • Musical direction of courses and artistic projects in the context of jazz, improvisation and performance
  • Organizational activities in the management of student projects and ensembles
  • In addition to teaching courses, teaching activities include the necessary preparation and follow-up activities, event and examination activities, research and administrative activities associated with teaching, participation in committees and the supervision and assessment of final theses
