The Anton Bruckner Private University offers artistic and artistic-pedagogical courses of study in the fields of music, acting and dance. In 2004 it was institutionally accredited as a private university. It is a public corporation and is financially supported by the state of Upper Austria.

Research Associate (Post Doc) (f/m/d)

  • Employment level: 40 hours per week (100 % of full-time employment)
  • Duration of employment: Initially limited to two years with the possibility of a one-off extension to a maximum of four years (project duration)
  • Classification: Salary group D of the Anton Bruckner Private University Service Regulations  (subject to approval of the amendment to the statutes by the University Council and the Upper Austrian state government)
  • Remuneration: gross monthly salary from EUR 4,752.27 (depending on previous service)

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) is funding the four-year research project "Towards a Unified Model of Musical Form: Bridging Music Theory, Digital Corpus Research, and Computation" (10.000.183) as part of the Sinergia programme and in cooperation with the Digital and Cognitive Musicology Lab (Prof. Martin Rohrmeier) and the Chair of Discrete Optimisation (Prof. Friedrich Eisenbrand) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). The project aims to advance a theory of musical form, the creation of form-analytical data sets and develop computational approaches for automated form analysis.
To carry out the project, the ABPU (project leader: Prof. Markus Neuwirth) is looking for a staff member in the status of a research associate (post doc).

Requirements


Employment requirements:
  • Completed university degree (preferably music theory and/or musicology or a related discipline)
  • Completed doctorate in music theory, musicology or a related discipline
  • Background in music theory, especially good knowledge of form theory
  • Experience with scientific research projects/publications
  • Willingness to cooperate and ability to work in a team
  • Regular presence at Anton Bruckner Private University
  • Excellent English language skills (C2 level)
Desired qualifications:
  • Experience in digital corpus research, digital humanities, and the use of computational and quantitative methods

Role & Responsibilities


  • Participation in research and administration within the four-year research project "Towards a Unified Model of Musical Form: Bridging Music Theory, Digital Corpus Research, and Computation"
  • Close collaboration with the project teams in Linz and Lausanne
  • Attendance at international conferences and workshops
